All about the Richardson’s

At the well in Thornton there are going to be some benches and a path going down to it.

There is a grindstone on the top of the well that Henry Richardson had put on.

The inscription on the grindstone was put on in 1764.

Henry Richardson lived from 1710 to 1778.

He was the 5th child of the family; he had two older brothers and two sisters.

He went to Oxford University.

After graduating he went off to study in Holland.

Henry grew up in a satisfactory background.

As rector, he rebuilt the rectory and tithe barn.

He married a young girl  called Mary in 1738. Her father was a wool merchant. Henry’s younger sons were either going to work in the army or as a clergymen.

His oldest son worked

 in the sextons house.

The oldest child Henry was a lot like his father because  he liked books and papers. He was a wealthy man and stayed a wealthy man.

When Henry died he was buried in Thornton but no one knows where he was buried.
