about the Richardson’s
At
the well in Thornton there are going to be some benches and a path going down
to it.
There
is a grindstone on the top of the well that Henry Richardson had put on.
The
inscription on the grindstone was put on in 1764.
Henry
Richardson lived from 1710 to 1778.
He
was the 5th child of the family; he had two older brothers and two
sisters.
He
went to Oxford University.
After
graduating he went off to study in Holland.
Henry
grew up in a satisfactory background.
As
rector, he rebuilt the rectory and tithe barn.
He married a young girl called Mary in 1738. Her father was a wool merchant. Henry’s younger sons were either going to work in the army or as a clergymen.
His
oldest son worked
in the sextons house.
The
oldest child Henry was a lot like his father because he liked books and papers. He was a wealthy man and stayed a
wealthy man.
When
Henry died he was buried in Thornton but no one knows where he was buried.
